Leather work gloves

Leather gloves provide excellent protection against mechanical impacts during work. They are suitable for heavy-duty use and for work where there is a risk of injury. Leather work gloves are extremely abrasion resistant and at the same time supple and flexible. The high-quality material offers the wearer protection and comfort.

The cowhide or pigskin used by ASATEX has a wide range of applications and is particularly durable. They reliably protect the wearer from injuries caused by stitches, for example, and provide a good grip. Depending on the design, leather gloves also protect against thermal hazards.

Despite their high safety properties, leather work gloves are flexible and comfortable. Models with a palm lining keep the hands pleasantly warm in cold temperatures.

Leather gloves protect against stings and other injuries

There is an increased risk of injury during rough and demanding hand movements and work steps. Wearing suitable work gloves is a matter of course and protects against mechanical injuries such as abrasions, cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds.

Protection against puncture wounds is one of the most important features of leather gloves. Leather work gloves have different levels of puncture resistance depending on their quality, thickness and workmanship. The EN 388 standard divides protective gloves in terms of puncture resistance into values from 0 (no puncture resistance) to 4 (highest puncture resistance). The leather gloves in the ASATEX online shop include high-quality models. Most of them have a puncture resistance of 4. This means that according to the DIN EN 388 standard for protective gloves with performance classes against mechanical risks, a force of 150 Newtons had to be applied in the test to pierce a nail through the material of the leather gloves.

Apart from puncture resistance, there are other important protective properties that a leather glove can fulfil. The wearer should read these off the pictogram on the glove before starting work.

Read off the protection requirements of leather gloves from the pictogram

The numbers and letters below the pictogram indicate which protection requirements the respective leather glove fulfils. For example, the sequence of numbers 4.1.4.4. could be shown. This indicates the performance levels for the respective test categories. The first number stands for abrasion resistance, followed by cut resistance, in third place tear resistance and in fourth place the performance level for puncture resistance. The higher the number, the higher the protection offered by the leather work glove.

The fifth position after the numbers is a letter. For example, 4.1.4.A. This indicates the result of the additional cut resistance test according to EN ISO 13997. If there is an X in this or any other position, it means that one of the performance tests on the leather work glove was not carried out. In some cases, there is a P in the sixth position, indicating that the glove has passed the impact test.
