Welding gloves

Welding gloves made of leather reliably protect the hands against the typical hazards of welding and related activities. They are used against thermal hazards such as heat, fire, sparks or metallic splashes. In addition, they prevent injuries from mechanical hazards that occur during rough work such as welding, forging or casting. These include cuts, punctures and impacts.

In the ASATEX Online Shop you will find high-quality welding gloves made of cowhide and pigskin leather type A.

Requirements for welding gloves

To ensure that welding gloves protect the welder safely during his work, they must meet a number of standards and regulations.

First of all, they meet the general requirements and test methods of EN ISO 21420 (formerly EN 420) for protective gloves. Among other things, this specifies the general requirements for protective gloves in terms of design, material resistance, water penetration and harmlessness. In addition, strict requirements are placed specifically on welding gloves, which are described in the standards EN 12477, EN 407 and EN 388.

The welding gloves in the ASATEX Shop meet the requirements of the standards mentioned, which are described in more detail below.

EN 12477 - Protective gloves for welders

The EN 12477 standard specifically describes the regulations for protective gloves for welders. It prescribes a long forearm protector to protect the wearer from welding beads. The standard divides welding gloves into two types. Type A gloves are recommended for heavy welding work, as they meet higher requirements. Type B offers greater freedom of movement.

EN 407 - Protection against thermal hazards

The EN 407 standard describes the properties of welding gloves in terms of protection against thermal hazards. This includes contact heat, radiant heat and splashes. In the test, the welding gloves are tested for the criteria of burning behaviour, contact heat, convection heat, radiation heat, small splashes of molten metal and large amounts of molten metal. Depending on the result, they receive a value from 0 to 4 for each criterion, or X if a criterion was not tested. The higher the value, the better the test result. The results must be legible on the glove below the standard pictogram.

EN 388 - Protective gloves against mechanical risks

Last but not least, the welding gloves also comply with the EN 388 standard for protective gloves against mechanical risks. Here, too, they are tested for various criteria such as abrasion resistance, cut resistance, tear resistance, puncture resistance, cut resistance and impact protection. The results (depending on the category 0 to 4, A to F or P) can also be read on the glove.

Properties of the welding gloves

Our welding gloves are made of cow grain leather, cow split leather and pig grain leather. The robust split leather is recommended for coarser welding work with high stress. Due to the rough structure, welding gloves made of split leather also offer a particularly good grip. Grain leather has a smoother structure, which makes the welding gloves more resistant to oil, grease and water.

To ensure durability, our welding gloves are made with continuous double seams. The high-quality materials and workmanship designed for durability make the leather welding gloves optimal companions for challenging welding work.
