Rain clothing
The rainwear in our online shop is specially made for protection against precipitation and moisture in working environments. Waterproof rain jackets and waterproof work trousers make it possible to work outdoors even in the rain and protect the wearer from getting wet.
Wet clothing is not only uncomfortable, it also draws heat away from the body. This weakens the body's defences and makes it more susceptible to infections. Freezing also poses an immediate safety risk during work. Fine motor skills and reaction times can be impaired and concentration problems due to prolonged cold increase the susceptibility to errors. Good reasons why waterproof rainwear is a must when the weather is suitable.

Certified work rainwear and functional protection in all weathers
Anyone who works in damp or wet weather for long periods of time needs reliable rainwear. In the ASATEX online shop, you will find high-quality rainwear that meets the requirements of various work areas. Part of our range fulfils the strict requirements of the EN 343 standard, which defines the performance of protective clothing against rain. These certified products not only guarantee waterproofness, but also breathability to optimise wearer comfort.
For situations where the EN 343 standard is not mandatory, we offer a wide range of rainwear that is not certified but still offers robust protection against wet and bad weather.
Both variants are designed to meet the needs of different working environments while ensuring comfort and freedom of movement.
The EN 343 standard for protective clothing against rain
Waterproofness is a key feature of rainwear in accordance with EN 343, which specifies that clothing must be waterproof to effectively protect the wearer from the wet. Waterproofness is measured in millimetres of water column. The higher the value, the more waterproof the clothing is. Work rain jackets and work rain trousers that comply with EN 343 therefore offer reliable protection against rain and moisture.
Water vapour permeability is another important characteristic specified in EN 343. It indicates whether the clothing is sufficiently vapour permeable. This property is crucial for wearing comfort. This is because it allows water vapour to escape from the body to the outside, while at the same time preventing water from penetrating from the outside. Balanced water vapour permeability ensures that the wearer does not sweat excessively, even during physical exertion.
EN 343 test methods and classes
In order to be able to interpret the EN 343 standard for certified rainwear, you should be familiar with its test methods and performance requirements. The main test methods for waterproofness and vapour permeability resistance are specified in 3 classes. These in turn result from the X class, which indicates how waterproof the material is, and the Y class, which stands for the breathability of the material.
For example, if you see the EN 343:2019 [3.X.X] label in the shop or on the clothing, the last part refers to the classification of waterproofness and breathability. In this case, [3.X.X] stands for the highest class (class 3). The rest of the text explains in more detail how the classification is carried out in the test procedure.
The X class evaluates the waterproofness
This test method determines the degree of waterproofness of the material. The so-called water column is a unit of measurement for the vertical pressure of the water that the material can withstand. The higher the water column, the more waterproof the material is. Specifically, the test is carried out by applying a certain amount of water to the material and then measuring the pressure at which the water begins to penetrate the material.
The result is given in millimetres of water column and divides rainwear into 3 classes, the so-called X-classes.
X-Classes | Millimetre water column |
Class 1 | ≥ 4.000 mm water column |
Class 2 | ≥ 8.000 mm water column |
Class 3 | ≥ 13.000 mm water column |
The Y-class evaluates the vapour transmission resistance
The vapour transmission resistance measures the breathability of the material. It indicates how easily water vapour can pass through the material. This property is important to ensure that the wearer is not only protected from external precipitation, but also from moisture build-up inside the clothing. The vapour transmission resistance is measured in square metres per Pascal per Watt (m² Pa/W). It must not be too high, as otherwise adequate breathability cannot be guaranteed in order to optimise wearer comfort.
In all 3 classes, the maximum vapour transmission resistance must not exceed 40 m² Pa/W. If this limit is exceeded in the test, the garment does not meet the standards of EN 343 and may not be certified as suitable rainwear. A garment must therefore still be breathable even if it is highly waterproof.
